President of Siemens' Building Technologies Division Named
Siemens Industry Inc., the U.S. affiliate of Siemens' global Industry Sector business, recently announced the appointment of Andreas Schierenbeck to president of its Building Technologies (BT) Division.

Schierenbeck will be responsible for the financial, operational, and competitive success of the Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based provider of energy and environmental solutions, building controls, electrical distribution equipment, and fire-safety and security-system solutions.

Schierenbeck has nearly 20 years of executive and leadership experience. Previously, he served as global chief executive officer for Siemens' Building Automation business unit in Zug, Switzerland.

A graduate of Harvard Business School's Executive MBA Program, Schierenbeck served as vice president of eu.bac, the European association of building-automation and controls suppliers. He is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Armstrong International Names President and CEO
Patrick B. Armstrong is the new corporate president and chief executive officer of Armstrong International, the Three Rivers, Mich.-based provider of intelligent system solutions for improving utility performance, lowering energy consumption, and reducing environmental emissions, succeeding David M. Armstrong, who died July 15. Armstrong has an engineering degree from Western Michigan University and more than 25 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing. Previously, he served as vice president of engineering and manufacturing.

"I'm humbled and honored to lead our fifth-generation family-owned company," Armstrong said.

Melink HQ Named Renewable Energy Project of the Year
Melink Corp., provider of energy-efficiency and renewable-energy solutions for commercial and institutional buildings, is the recipient of the Association of Energy Engineers' 2010 Renewable Energy Project of the Year award for its corporate headquarters in Milford, Ohio.

The 30,000-sq-ft office and manufacturing facility is powered using solar photovoltaics, solar thermal, geothermal, biomass, and wind. Melink plans to make it a net-zero-energy building by the end of the year.

The award will be presented Dec. 8 in Washington, D.C.

Camfil Farr Opens Branch Office in Puerto Rico
Camfil Farr, the Stockholm, Sweden-based provider of air-filtration and clean-air solutions, will officially open a branch and warehouse operation in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Nov. 12.

According to the company, the branch is being established to better serve customers in the health-care, medical-device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sectors.

"Specifically," Branch Manager Milton Robles said, "we will now have greater capabilities for both sales support and warehousing, so that the filters used most often in these sectors can be supplied immediately."

Camfil Farr has 29 subsidiaries and 23 plants in North and South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

CALMAC CEO Participates in Panel Discussion
Mark MacCracken, chief executive officer of CALMAC, the Fair Lawn, N.J.-based designer and manufacturer of thermal-energy-storage equipment, served on a panel of green-building experts discussing the impact and significance of new energy codes and standards, as well as changes in industry perceptions that led to groundbreaking rewrites of existing energy codes and standards, during the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC's) Urban Green Expo Sept. 30 in New York City.

Also serving on the panel were Russell Unger, executive director of the Urban Green Council; Allan Bilka, senior staff architect for the International Code Council; and David Walls, executive director of the California Building Standards Commission. Laurie Kerr, senior policy advisor for New York City’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, served as moderator.

MacCracken is USGBC chair-elect.
