GreenChill Awards Two Grocery Stores for Lowering Refrigerant Emissions
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Giant Eagle Inc. and Harris Teeter Inc. as the first winners of its GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership Environmental Achievement Award. The award recognizes the two food retailers for emitting the lowest rates of ozone-depleting refrigerant in GreenChill's first year. GreenChill partners in the food retail business have refrigerant-emission rates nearly 50-percent lower than the EPA-estimated industry average. These partners are responsible for a reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions from refrigerants totaling 2.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide—equivalent to the annual emissions of 500,000 cars. The food retailers saved nearly $13 million in 2007...MORE

The solar electric photovoltaic (PV) system will generate approximately 200 mwh of electricity annually, provide up to 8 percent of the Forrestal complex's energy during peak hours, and save as much as $26,000 in utility costs during the first year of operation....MORE

American Boiler Manufacturers Association Endorses EGB Conference
The American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) announced that it is an endorsing association for HPAC Engineering's fifth annual Engineering Green Buildings (EGB) Conference and Expo, which will be held Oct. 21 and 22 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. In making the announcement, Randy Rawson, ABMA's president and chief executive officer, encouraged "all ABMA manufacturer- and supplier-member companies involved in the commercial, institutional, and governmental-building sectors to take advantage of this great marketing opportunity." Rawson added: "Commercial, institutional, and industrial boiler manufacturers are aggressively pursuing markets in the renewable-energy sectors. And don't let anyone kid you: Today's conventional- and condensing-boiler and burner technologies offer superior and low-cost performance in the 'green' generation of comfort heating and steam."...MORE
