Tips for Mitigating Influenza in Buildings/Facilities
With cold and flu season upon us, reviewing a building’s HVAC system and its major components as well as air and water distribution can help reduce the spread of influenza. Simple common-sense measures, proper maintenance protocols, and system upgrades can further mitigate risks. To that end, Trane Commerical Systems has compiled a list of tips to help organizations diminish health risks and curtail the spread of flu and other unhealthy microbes in their facilities. [MORE]

Building Ventilation and the Principle of Diversity
By JACK L. BURTON, EIT, LEED AP; Gatter & Diehl Inc.; Mechanicsburg, Pa.
While the principle of diversity as it applies to the mechanical systems of occupied buildings is an often-discussed topic among engineers during the design phase of a project, its benefits and applications often go unquantified in the process. As such, neither the building owner nor the design professional truly appreciates the energy and cost savings realized by the application of this simple principle. [MORE]

Low-Ambient Cooling Solutions
Mitsubishi Electric Cooling and Heating Solutions is the first and only VRF manufacturer to offer a low-ambient cooling solution for its 6–30 ton air-source outdoor units. The low-ambient cooling kit makes it possible to provide 100% cooling capacity at outdoor temperatures down to -10º F, while still allowing full airflow at higher ambient temperatures and full heating capacity if the unit switches to that mode.
