ABMA President Releases Statement on MACT-Standards Job-Impact Fears
Recent industry-user-financed studies predicting major job losses in plants if the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (U.S. EPA’s) Industrial/Commercial/Institutional (ICI) Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) standards go into effect as originally proposed “are flawed,” Randy Rawson, president of the American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA), said. Rawson released a statement after it was divulged that the U.S. Department of Commerce (U.S. DOC) has weighed in with a so-far-unreleased opinion on the economic impact of the U.S. EPA’s proposals. USGBC Seeks Proposals for Greenbuild 2011
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is soliciting proposals for the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, which will be held Oct. 5-7 in Toronto. ASHRAE to Offer Free Sessions at AHR Expo
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) will be presenting two free sessions at the AHR Expo in Las Vegas. “A Practical Guide for Reducing Air Leakage in HVAC Air Systems” will take place Monday, Jan. 31, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m., while “Standard 90.1-2010 Update: How It Affects You” will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. Attendees can earn 1.5 professional-development hours for each session.

AHRI Releases October Heating- and Cooling-Equipment Shipment Data
According to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), commercial-gas-water-heater shipments decreased 11 percent in October 2010 to 5,333 units, compared with 6,017 units shipped in October 2009. Commercial-electric-water-heater shipments decreased 4 percent in October 2010 to 4,366 units, down from 4,543 units shipped in October 2009. [MORE]

Located in the Chicago Loop, the Michael A. Bilandic Building is a 21-story office tower serving State of Illinois agencies, including the Illinois Supreme Court. In 1989, the existing building structure was gutted and renovated. At that time, a new top floor was added to house major mechanical equipment, including three gas-fired, two-stage absorption chiller-heaters.
