Data-center cooling systems

The Liebert CRV is a self-contained precision cooling system that installs within a row of data-center racks for efficient cooling of critical information-technology equipment. The rack-sized system provides high-capacity cooling in a small footprint and features the Liebert iCOM Control System, which modulates unit performance in real time based on conditions in the row. Monitoring up to 10 racks with 20 sensors, the cooling system precisely controls air temperature, humidity, and filtration in surrounding racks. The system's horizontal airflow cooling design is suitable for raised or non-raised floors, while adjustable airflow baffles maximize cooling of rack equipment, allowing the system to be positioned within or at the end of a row. Multiple units can communicate with each other to improve system performance and reduce energy consumption. Air, water, glycol, and chilled-water systems are available.

Known for their single-point microprocessor-based control system, built-in redundancy via independent refrigerant circuits, expandability, low sound signature, and suitability for critical cooling applications, Airstack ASP30X chillers now include microchannel heat exchangers that can reduce refrigerant charges by 35 to 40 percent. The heat exchangers can be cleaned via high-pressure water, making maintenance easier.

Valve actuators

ME8300 wireless control-valve actuators, based on the EnOcean Alliance protocol, provide interoperability with a range of self-powered, wireless sensors. The actuators also provide a means of plugging into an existing system architecture, such as BACnet. The actuators can be installed on the full range of Spartan two- and three-way zone valve bodies in ½-, ¾-, and 1-in. sizes.

Condenser-coil guard system

Designed to help prevent compressor stalling during low ambient operation by preventing frigid air movement through the prevailing-wind side of condenser coils, Wind Guard Systems are constructed of a heavy-duty, fiber-reinforced vinyl with a reinforced perimeter, grommets, and quick-release fasteners. The fasteners also are compatible with Air Solution's Cottonwood Filter Screens, which are designed to prevent airborne debris from fouling condenser coils, cooling towers, air-handling units, and other HVAC systems. The Wind Guard Systems also are effective in preventing snow and ice damage to cooling-tower sumps and fill during winter shutdown.

Refrigeration temperature switches

Designed to control compressor, fan, and defrost settings in refrigeration applications, TSX3 digital temperature switches have field-selectable engineering units and input probes. Intelligent defrost parameters manage defrost cycles to save energy costs. For multiple units, the switches' configuration key can be used to download parameter settings quickly.

Butterfly valves

Type 57LIS butterfly valves are industrial-quality thermoplastic valves that can replace metallic butterfly valves without modification of existing piping systems in applications in which metal valves corrode. Face-to-face dimensions (the distance between the two flanges) of the valves are the same as those of the metal valves that the Type 57LIS valves replace. Available in 3- to 8-in. sizes in lever style or with Asahi's Plasgear gear operator, the valves feature an all-plastic housing design.

Scroll compressors

The Orbit 8 commercial scroll-compressor series includes six displacements with cooling capacities from 15 to 40 tons at 60 Hz and is designed for R-410A refrigerant. The compressors have been designed to assist chiller manufacturers in obtaining higher efficiency levels than those required by current standards. This is accomplished by optimizing each compressor for its specific application (e.g., one series is optimized for air-cooled applications and heat pumps, while the other is optimized for water-cooled chiller operation.)

Filtration media

Filtration media for HVAC-system air filters deliver high initial and sustained particle-capture efficiencies, helping to deliver indoor-air quality (IAQ) and keep HVAC components clean. The media can be used in a variety of filter types, such as pockets/bags, rigid cells, mini-pleats, v-banks, and aluminum separator filters. Use areas for HVAC filters made with the media include commercial and institutional buildings, industrial filtration systems, laboratories, and air purifiers.

Zone-control systems

A commercial zone-control system, the Comfort System Z-2000 allows a single HVAC unit to have up to 20 individual zones. Each zone is controlled by its own space thermostat and a modulating zone damper. The system works with single stage, multi-stage, or heat-pump systems and has auxiliary heat-control options for each zone.
