The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International Inc. announced that the Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved ANSI/AMCA Standard 550-09, Test Method for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain Resistant Louvers, and ANSI/AMCA Standard 510-09, Methods of Testing Heavy Duty Dampers for Rating.
Standard 550-09 establishes uniform laboratory test methods and minimum performance ratings for water-rejection capabilities of louvers intended to be used in high-velocity wind conditions. The scope of Standard 550-09 is intended to demonstrate the acceptability of louver installations in facilities (essential and non-essential) that will remain in operation during high-velocity wind conditions and where water infiltration must be kept to manageable amounts.
Standard 510-09 establishes testing methods used in measuring the performance of dampers used in utilities and heavy industry. The products covered within the scope of Standard 510-09 include dampers, which are used to control flow of a gas (specific gas, a mixture of gas and air, or air alone) or to isolate duct-system sections from one another. The scope narrows to dampers generally described as “custom design,” “heavy duty,” or “severe service” because such dampers normally are used in applications in which elevated temperature, erosion, and/or corrosion conditions exist.
