A new data model developed by researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and their colleagues at other universities and in the private sector will help facilities and buildings save power through automated-demand-response technology and advance the development of the “Smart Grid.” [MORE]
AHRI to Launch Refrigerant-Phaseout Website
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) recently announced an April 29 launch of a Website, www.phaseoutfacts.org, designed to reduce confusion regarding the phaseout of HCFC refrigerants. The site was created to enable better decision making and to improve compliance with refrigerant laws and regulations. [MORE]
ASHRAE Funds Research Into Keeping Kitchen Staff Cool and Comfortable
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is funding research in thermal comfort in commercial kitchens. A 2005 report by the Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York and the New York City Restaurant Industry Coalition found that, "Nearly half of the 530 workers surveyed reported that it gets unsafely hot in the kitchen where they work."
