"HVAC Design Essentials: Tools for High Performance Building Designers," an intensive three-day workshop, will be held Aug. 15-17 at American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Headquarters in Atlanta.

Led by Julia Keen, PhD, PE, HBDP, associate professor of architectural engineering and construction science at Kansas State University, and Joel Primeau, P.Eng., HBDP, an independent high-performance-building consulting engineer who resides in Ontario, Canada, the workshop describes the skills needed to design high-performance buildings, presents techniques for interacting effectively with all members of an integrated design team, and reviews the economics of sustainable buildings.

In addition to course materials, attendees will receive a copy of ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, and Standard 189.1-2009 User’s Manual.

Many states and professional organizations recognize the workshop for professional-development hours and continuing-education units.

This will be the second time the worship is held. The first workshop, held in May, sold out.

The cost to register is $939 for ASHRAE members and $1,189 for non-members through July 15. After July 15, the cost will be $989 for ASHRAE members and $1,239 for non-members. For three or more employees of a company who enroll at the same time, the cost is $889 per person.
