USGBC Announces New Award for Leadership in Creating Sustainable Cities

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has created a new award: the Mayor Richard M. Daley Legacy Award for Global Leadership in Creating Sustainable Cities. The award will be presented to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley at USGBC’s annual Greenbuild Conference & Expo, which will be held Nov. 17-19 in Chicago.

As one of the first cities to adopt the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System for public buildings and home to more LEED-certified green buildings than any other, Chicago is committed to leadership as a "next-generation" city. Mayor Daley has dedicated his time as mayor to making Chicago one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the nation. He believes Chicago’s future is directly linked with efforts to be a national leader in protecting and enhancing the nation’s natural resources.

The USGBC’s annual Greenbuild conference will present a platform for a national recommitment to the critical need for more sustainable cities—cities that create opportunity, drive job generation, save money for residents, and power the green economy.
