Wireless Fire Detection Systems Growing in Popularity

Feb. 24, 2015
On Omaha.com, we read about wireless fire detection systems, a burgeoning technology that could take over the industry.

We live in a time where new innovations are revealed on a seemingly daily basis, but sometimes we hear about an innovation that could really be of great use in our industry. On Omaha.com, we read about one of those growing and innovative technologies: wireless fire detection systems.

Russell Hubbard of Omaha.com wrote that these systems are making “small but measureable” progress in public safety across the U.S. The systems, which communicate with one another much like cellphone signals and Wi-Fi, have sensors, alarms and antennas that receive important information.

Sales of wireless fire detection systems are now accounting for about 1 percent to 2 percent of new installations and retrofits, said Bob Sorensen, president of Omaha fire gear supplier FireGuard, and the Midwest region director of the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors.

“Wireless systems are now to the point that people have complete confidence in them,” Sorensen said. “It appears to be the technology of the future.”

What have you heard about these wireless fire detection systems? Do you see this technology growing in the near future?
