Drama, Mystery on AHR Show Floor

Feb. 10, 2020
One exhibitor's booth went dark last week after U.S. marshals shut it down while enforcing a court order.

AHR Expo, Orlando FL -- Tuesday, Feb. 4  |  An occurrence unlike any that this observer can recall took place on the AHR Expo show floor Tuesday afternoon when one international exhibitor was unceremoniously removed from the Exhibit Floor at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center.

Ejected from the hall by federal law enforcement, occupants of Booth 3873, a fan manufacturer from Mexico, left behind a hurriedly emptied display area. It was shrouded in black curtains, with black tape strategically placed over identifying signage and certain product parts allegedly in dispute.

"U.S. marshals came in and took them out, and covered up everything," said a still-astonished neighboring exhibitor. "Apparently, it had something to do with a patent infringement issue."

Added another, "I think it had to do with the tips of the fan blades, which they took special care to cover separately."

A spokesman for AHR Expo confirmed that the exhibitor's removal had taken place, but declined to comment on the circumstances.

The name of the exhibitor initially was withheld, pending legal proceedings.

UPDATE: This sign showed up taped to the outside of the booth on Wednesday, Feb. 5. A hearing has reportedly been set for Tuesday, Feb. 18.
