Emerson Network Power Introduces Data-Center Air-Handling Solutions

April 21, 2015
The Liebert suite is comprised of direct and indirect evaporative free-cooling units and chilled-water and direct-expansion air handlers.

Emerson Network Power recently introduced what it is calling the industry’s most comprehensive line of air-handling solutions for mission-critical environments.

Comprised of a direct evaporative free-cooling unit, an indirect evaporative free-cooling unit, a chilled-water air handler, and a direct-expansion air handler, the Liebert suite of custom air-handling units (AHUs) offers wide-ranging configuration options and advanced thermal-optimization controls designed specifically for data-center applications.

“With the Liebert custom air-handling technology, smaller-scale data centers now have access to the same … advanced controls that previously were available only to hyperscale data centers,” John Peter Valiulis, vice president, North America marketing, thermal management, Emerson Network Power, said.

The AHUs feature the Liebert iCOM control system, which provides advanced protection and efficiency optimization, enabling the units to achieve annual mechanical power-usage effectiveness well under 1.2. The control system offers machine-to-machine teamwork with advanced algorithms that automatically adjust airflow, temperature, and economizer operations based on information-technology loads and outdoor conditions. In some cases, customized programming or third‑party integration is not required. As a result, installation and deployment costs can be up to 20 percent lower than those of alternative solutions.

The units can be customized in a number of ways, including:

  • Unit capacity and physical dimensions.
  • Airflow path and entering and discharge locations.
  • Electronically commutated or direct-drive fans with variable-frequency drive arranged singly or in an array.
  • Trim or full secondary cooling options using chilled water or direct expansion.
  • Type and level of filtration.
  • Color, thickness, efficiency, rigidity, and corrosion resistance of casing.
  • Noise and snow mitigation.

Twenty-four-hour technical support with a guaranteed four-hour service response time is available to contract customers.

With proper maintenance, the units are engineered to last for more than 30 years.
