Sustainable Ventilation in High-Rise Office Buildings

Building improvements are straightforward when the owner of a facility also is the occupant. The same cannot be said when, as in the case of many high-rise office buildings, the owner simply is the landlord, with dozens of tenants and spaces in various states and stages of occupancy. When it comes to energy, the tendency is for owners of these structures to charge tenants for all consumption and make no improvements. This is unfortunate, as opportunities for energy conservation — and, thus, carbon-dioxide (CO2) reduction — through the regulation of ventilation air abound, bringing with them money-saving and public-relations benefits for both owners and tenants. DOE Announces Funding For Federal Energy-Efficiency Improvements

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced more than $20 million in high-end technical assistance to federal agencies to help ensure the widest possible implementation of leading-edge energy-efficiency technologies across the federal government. Under President Obama, the federal government is committed to leading a transformation to a low-carbon emission future. To assist federal agencies in achieving this goal, DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will make available the technical expertise from DOE's National Laboratories for projects, such as cool roofs, greenhouse-gas reductions, renewable energy, smart grids, zero-energy homes, sustainable buildings, and energy and water retrofits. Bryan introduces Triple-Flex™ (patent pending) Ultra-High Efficiency Condensing Boilers. These boilers feature flexible stainless steel tubes, minimum thermal efficiency of 90% with 160° return, 180° supply at 100% firing load. Efficiencies of 99% are achievable with lower return water temperatures as found in new building designs. Triple-Flex boilers fire at 3,000 MBH input, with sub 30 PPM NOx utilizing a hybrid metal fiber 5:1 turndown burner.
Triple-Flex boilers are suited to deliver the industries highest operating efficiencies up to 99% in new buildings designed for condensing boiler conditions and better than 90% efficiency in retrofit applications not designed for condensing boilers.
